The importance of Apprentices and Young Talent
At LAML, our commitment to nurturing young talent and providing continuous learning opportunities is deeply ingrained in our company culture. We understand that the future of the construction industry depends on the investment we make in developing the next generation of professionals. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and structured training programmes, we are shaping leaders of tomorrow, while building a resilient workforce today.
In the autumn of 2024 LAML provided a work experience opportunity for a sixth form student a unique opportunity to work alongside our team at the Manchester Airport MAN TP-02 project.
This real-world experience, which included exposure to the complexities of a live airport construction site and the demands of night shift work, gave the student a comprehensive understanding of the type of environment they would be operating in as they progress in a career in aviation construction. Such practical experiences are invaluable for young professionals, offering them insights that can't be fully captured in any other way.
LAML has also embarked on it’s first AGL Electrical Apprenticeship in 2025. Our Aprentice’s journey at LAML has been carefully designed to blend theoretical learning with on-the-job training. He will be mentored by our experienced AGL (Aeronautical Ground Lighting) site team while completing his formal training through block release. This structured approach allows our young colleague to gain both the technical skills and the practical knowledge necessary to succeed in this specialist field.
These examples underscore our focus on creating opportunities for young talent to thrive within our organisation. By offering mentorship, real-world experience, and a clear path for career progression, we are building a team that is equipped to meet the challenges of the future. This approach aligns with the broader ethos of the Lagan Special Contracting Group, which emphasises investment in people as a key strategy for long-term success
The construction sector, particularly in specialized areas like airport maintenance and development, requires a skilled and adaptable workforce. As the industry evolves, so too must the training and development of its people. According to research by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the UK construction industry will need an additional 217,000 workers by 2025. This demand highlights the importance of fostering young talent now to ensure the industry's future success.
At LAML, we recognise this need and are actively contributing to the growth and development of the construction sector through our commitment to training the next generation of professionals. By investing in the development of our employees, we are not only securing the future of our company but also helping to shape the future of the industry as a whole.
Our approach at LAML is simple but powerful: by nurturing young talent, providing them with opportunities for growth, and supporting their professional development, we are building a resilient team capable of driving innovation and excellence in the construction industry.
Whether it's through hands-on experience on projects like the Manchester Airport MAN TP-02, mentorship from seasoned professionals, or formal apprenticeship programmes, we are dedicated to creating future leaders who will contribute to the long-term success of both LAML and the wider construction sector.
